Summer Camp Wedding, the Cake Table

It's October, which means I'm getting Very excited about my good friend Katherine's wedding down in New Orleans on the 24th. This also means that weddings are very much on my mind and I couldn't help but swoon when I saw these pictures from my friend Leslie's brother's wedding a few weeks ago. I'm particularly obsessed with the cake table, which was filled with four cakes that Leslie (of super cool screen printing company Urban Posture) made, including a vegan white cake with strawberry filling for the bride who can't eat dairy or eggs, among other cakes and confections.
I can tell from Leslie's tweets and facebook status updates that she's a terrific and frequent baker, but making this many layer cakes (other flavors included coconut and Italian cream) is a remarkable feat. And I love the way the table looks—appropriate to the setting, but also festive and elegant. The wedding was at a summer camp...
So the guests ate dinner at picnic tables topped with flower-filled mason jars and sewn cloth napkins. And rather than hiring a dj or making an ipod playlist, the couple invited everyone to bring their favorite vinyl records and they played them through the evening. Which was capped off with roasted marshmallows and a bonfire. And twinkle lights. Sounds pretty perfect, I think. Though I'm sure I'll be saying the same thing about the desserts (cheese!) at Katherine's wedding too!
